Collins signed for Darlington ahead of the 2006/07 campaign. Collins started his career in the North East at Sunderland however did not manage to break into the first team on Wearside. The 6ft 3in defender moved to Sheffield Wednesday in 2004 after impressing during a trial spell with the Owls.
During his time at Hillsborough the defender gained plenty of experience and during his first season at Sheffield Wednesday (2004/05) he went on to make twenty-five starts and played a part in the Owls 4-2 win over Hartlepool United in the League One play-off finals which saw them promoted to the Championship.
Despite this however Collins was sent out to Swindon Town on loan during the 2005/06 campaign. At the turn of the year however he returned to Sheffield Wednesday and took part in three Championship fixtures. Collins is a versatile defender who is capable of playing anywhere along the backline and gives Darlington real flexibility.
