Shrewsbury Town v Darlington
Shrewsbury Town manager Gary Peters is looking forward to his side's clash against Darlington tomorrow evening at Gay Meadow. Darlington had the weekend off thanks to a lack of involvement in the FA Cup. There was no such luck for Shrewsbury Town who played host to Colchester United on a very heavy pitch thanks to rain leading up to the game. Gary Peters admits that there could well be a few heavy legs in his side for this game.
"I think when you lose a game you always want to get back into it quickly," he said on the club's official website. "The only thing is that it was a heavy pitch and the lad's legs will be a bit heavy from Saturday and Darlington didn't have a game. But it's our pitch, we are ready for it and they might not be used to how wet it can be."
Quakers had a mixed set of results against the Shrews last season when the two sides met twice in the league. The first encounter a few days after Christmas in 2004 was one to forget as Darlington fell to a 4-0 away defeat. However less than a month later Dave Hodgson's men recorded a 3-0 victory on their own home soil and Peters says that the result at Gay Meadow must have fired them up.
"It was so soon afterwards and I think they still had that anger in them and they did well up there but we did well down here," said Peters. "I'll take that now because I want three points under our belt. When we got up there on their flat, dry surface which is good for football they knocked it around well and they made our life's hell. It is a different team this year. They have a lot of younger players, athletic players so it is different. They don't have as many names."
Quakers could well make a few changes for this game and also look set to take the pitch into consideration with the selection of at least one of their players for the match. Assistant manager Mark Proctor has said Darlington will be looking to 'spice things up a bit' for this fixture at Gay Meadow. There should be no worries for the match going ahead. A spokesperson for Shrewsbury has already confirmed that whilst there a couple of puddles here and there it is nothing serious however the pitch is expected to be heavy, as it always is at this time of year.
Meanwhile Darlington forward Tresor Kandol, who is on loan from Dagenham and Redbridge, has been involved in a minor road traffic accident. Quakers assistant manager refused to reveal too much about the incident but it is not thought to be serious. As always Quakers World will bring you full commentary on the game.
