MORECAMBE V DARLINGTON
Darlington head to Morecambe this weekend looking to make it four league wins in a row. Quakers will roll into town on the back of a 4-0 demolition job of Grimsby in midweek and hopes will be high that the players can produce another sparkling result and an equally sparkling performance.
Morecambe however will offer a stern test for Quakers. Promoted last season from the conference the Christie Park based side have adapted well to league football and on the basis of their season so far should have few worries about being in the division next season. Indeed based on results so far Sammy McIlroy's side could be a good bet for the play-offs. All of this is of no surprise to Darlington boss Dave Penney.
"Morecambe are a good side, but we don't fear anybody. I am not surprised that they have done well this season because there is a not a lot of difference between the top teams in the Conference and League Two. It's about momentum and winning games, and that is why they have adapted to league Two and done well," said Penney.
"But we are averaging two points per game and if we maintain that all season we will win promotion. If winning is a habit then it's a good one to be in, but we cannot afford any complacency because things can quickly change in football."
"At Grimsby the players started brightly and worked their socks off right through the game. It is that work ethic that is bringing rewards. We will start at Morecambe with the same eleven, because if I left anybody out of a team that had just won 4-0 they would be banging on my door and rightly so," continued the boss.
McIlroy is also in confident mood ahead of the game. "Like we do with all our opponents we've had them watched a couple of times and we know their strengths. They have spent a bit of money but this is the level we're playing at now. They will be a benchmark - they're one of the top sides in this division but so far I've not seen anything that we need to be worried about. If we get our game right we are a match for anyone."
Midfielder Clark Keltie is free from suspension having missed the Grimsby game because of a one-match ban, but he probably will not reclaim his starting place tomorrow. Morecambe's Garry Thompson could return from his hamstring injury after almost a month on the sidelines however McIlroy will serve a one match touchline ban for this game.
