MACCLESFIELD V DARLINGTON
Darlington manager Dave Penney has warned his players not to be complacent ahead of their trip to Macclesfield this weekend. Quakers are currently unbeaten with two wins and a draw in their opening three games and find themselves top of the table. The Quakers boss though, while pleased with the start, points out that it is nothing more than that - a start.
Whilst Darlington have enjoyed a good start to their campaign so to have Macclesfield. The Silkmen are still however searching for their first win of the season but points against MK Dons, Bradford City and Grimsby Town shows that they are made of better stuff that last year.
"We need to be careful that we don't get complacent," said Penney. "We have to make sure they are fully focused each and every game. We have a tough match against Macclesfield tomorrow. They are unbeaten as well and there are never any easy games. We have to make sure we are focused and up for it as much as they have been in the other three games. It is still early doors. I would rather have seven points than none but it is still very early. There will be twists and turns but we are delighted with the start and now we just need to keep picking up points."
Penney feels that there is more to come from his players yet as they continue to gel. Quakers let a late lead slip against Notts County last weekend and will be eager to make amends. A sloppy goal at home to the Magpies was all that stood between Darlington and another three points for their early haul.
"We have spoken about it in training but I think that there is a lot more to come from us. The players have gelled off the pitch but in certain instances on the pitch it will take a little more time. We have had a settled side and the more we can play together the better they can be. I think in the first half on Saturday we were excellent. We could have had two or three goals really but I do still think that there is a little more to come from us," said the manager.
Darlington will welcome Ricky Ravenhill back into their squad for Saturday's trip. The midfielder pulled off the Accrington game with just over half an hour gone with a hamstring problem. The strain however has now cleared up and he will be in contention for a place. New recruit Xavier Barrua will also included in the squad however Neil Austin remains unavailable due to his ankle injury.
Macclesfield meanwhile should have Michael Husbands available. The striker has passed a fitness test and started full training. However Jamie Tolley will be absent due to a wrist injury. There is better news for Adam Murray. Despite been struck down by a sickness bug he is on the mend and should be fit for selection.
