ACCRINGTON STANLEY V DARLINGTON
Darlington head to Accrington for their first away game of the season hoping to pull off the same result as they did last term at virtually the exact same time in the previous campaign. Quakers took on Stanley in only their second game of the last season and do so again this weekend.
Both teams have started the season all but identically. Accrington raised eyebrows with a 1-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers last weekend and then bowed out of the Carling Cup against Leicester City with a spirited performance. It's a similar story with Dave Penney's side who beat Wrexham on the opening day and then turned in a good showing at Barnsley but ultimately went out.
"It was no mean feat to go to Wycombe and get a result," said Penney on Thursday afternoon. "They will be full of it and I am sure they will be buoyed by their performance against Leicester in midweek. They went out but they went out in the right way if there is such a thing. Teams who come up generally do alright and they stayed up last season so I'm sure they'll be looking to stay up this season as well."
Having recorded a double over Accrington last season Quakers will be hopeful of getting another result at the Fraser Eagle Stadium. Penney though concedes at this stage keeping the early momentum gathered from the previous two results is also just as important.
"We want to get as many points as quickly as we can and Saturday is another chance to pick three points up. We will be going there looking to do just that," said Penney. "A draw certainly wouldn't be the worst result in the world, it would keep the momentum going but if we can build upon the clean sheet against Wrexham then we always have goals in us."
Darlington could make a few changes to the side that lost at Barnsley in midweek. Tim Ryan could play despite a toe injury however Neil Austin is rated fifty-fifty for the match. Ian Miller meanwhile could come back into the side in place of Alan White after not being allowed to play in the match by Ipswich Town. Andy Oakes is also free to play having served a one match ban but young David Stockdale could keep his place.
Regardless the Darlington boss was more than happy with the contribution of all his players and has options to cover any absentees. Darlington's game with Accrington Stanley kicks-off at 3pm.
